The One Current Record That Keeps the Check-In Queue Out of the Car Park

QR registration moves each member from a paper list or WhatsApp search to a single scan, while real-time attendance visibility shows volunteers who has arrived and where help is needed. Together, they shorten the queue, reduce repeated questions, and give coordinators a live record instead of a headcount assembled after the doors close.

In April 1970, Apollo 13 was more than 300,000 kilometres from Earth when an oxygen tank exploded. Astronauts Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise suddenly depended on Mission Control in Houston to understand a spacecraft that could no longer complete its planned lunar landing.

Controllers did not wait for each team to prepare a separate report. They worked from telemetry coming back from the spacecraft, watching oxygen, electrical power, water, and other readings as conditions changed. NASA’s history of Apollo 13 documents how flight director Gene Kranz and teams in Houston used that shared operational picture to evaluate options and help bring the crew home safely.

A church registration desk carries far lower stakes. The useful principle is the same: when conditions are changing quickly, people make better decisions from one current record than from several partial accounts.

The queue starts before the first scan

Picture the opening of a large church conference in Accra. Members arrive in groups. Some have confirmation messages ready. Others search through WhatsApp. A volunteer checks a printed list while another asks people to spell their names.

The line reaches the car park because every exception becomes a fresh investigation.

One person registered under a different phone number. Another cannot find the right message. A third has already checked in at another entrance, but the volunteers at this desk cannot see it. Even a prepared team can lose minutes to questions that should take seconds.

Exceptions still need a human path

QR codes should handle the routine cases quickly, leaving volunteers more time for the people who need help.
