Abena’s QR code would not load. The service had already begun.

A QR code failure should not send a registered member to the back of the line. A phone number lookup gives the check-in team a practical backup, so the queue can keep moving before service begins.

At 8:57, Abena was three places from the check-in desk, holding her phone flat in both hands while the screen spun. She had registered earlier in the week and saved the QR code, but the venue’s connection was struggling and the image would not load. Behind her, a father shifted a sleepy toddler from one shoulder to the other. Ahead, the first song had already started inside.

The volunteer at the desk tried once more. Nothing.

Check-in should protect the welcome

Churches often measure check-in by speed alone. Speed matters, especially when a crowd arrives close to the start time. Yet the member’s experience matters just as much.

A person who has registered should not feel like a problem because their screen has failed. A volunteer should not have to choose between helping that person and holding up everyone else. A clear QR-first process with phone lookup as the backup gives both of them a way through the moment.
